12:49 pm 4zb4 Can we make it so that explosions have knockback similar to getting kicked?
12:49 pm 4zb4 Or do they already and I just never noticed?
2:27 pm capristo I don't believe so
2:28 pm capristo most explosions happen on my square so it's hard to remember, but I think whenever a kamikaze dwarf has exploded next to me, i've remained in the same spot
5:14 pm 4zb4 Yeah that's what happens as far as I remember too. Arms, legs, heads etc. will go flying but apparently that isn't enough to throw you backward
5:15 pm 4zb4 Part of the reason I brought this up is because I think it'd be a neat touch and we could also look into concussion weapons
5:23 pm 4zb4 e.g. magic warhammer of knock-you-into-walls

10:25 am Ischaldirh Should it have a drawback?

6:59 pm chaostrom How's this for a drawback: the knockback goes both ways. You can wield it at any ASTR, but more you're lacking, the more you suffer using it until you get the recommended amount.
7:05 pm 4zb4 I like that idea. My other idea was to just make the thing have obscenely high ASTR requirements, or to make the turn where the magic effect engages take a little longer than a regular attack
8:24 pm fejoa This line of code is a start: https://github.com/Attnam/ivan/blob/master/Main/Source/char....
8:24 pm fejoa Can we have a topic?

In general I'd just like to see more use of the knockback system that is currently only used for when people get kicked.

As far as concussion weapons go, I think a flashbang grenade that induces area confusion would be an interesting addition. Confusion being another under-used state.

It would be awsome if any high-Str attack (be it a punch, kick or weapon strike) could knock you back. Metal golems should probably punch you all over the room, which could also make metal limbs more interesting. Having explosion knock you around would be real fun in the minefield.

We could also differentiate wand of lightning and wand of striking - striking could do less damage, but have huge knock back.

I like the idea of more sources of confusion. If we ever have fully implemented mind worms, their mind blast should also cause confusion.

I have to voice a little opposition to the idea of a flash-bang. We don't need Attnam to become Nethack, with everything and the kitchen sink.

But a wand of confusion? That could be neat.

We have grenades, mines and gunpowder (named gunpowder and not black powder, so apparently some guns are also present), thaumic bombs (aka nukes; not in-game, but in game files), pepsi, cossacks and Ivan coming through interdimensional portal from Russia...

Either that, or a horn of confusion like in CLIVAN.

BTW, should we split this part of the discussion into a new Confusion thread?

Another thing that could greatly benefit from knockback improvements would be boots of kicking. Right now I feel they are rather underwhelming. If they added to the distance of knockback of your kicks, they could be much more interesting even as an auxiliary tool - imagine fighting with normal weapons, but kicking boots on for an occasional kick to send your enemy down the hallway.

I would also love to have the chance and power of the knockback be slightly improved by kicking boots alone, then added to by LStr and enchantment of the boots. If you invested enough enchantment scrolls (like +10 boots), you could kick enemies over the level.
