I think it's stupid how NPCs can displace you, but you can't displace them.

The fuck are you supposed to do here?
#2 Aug 23, 2009, 3:23 am Hide

Eagle V

I think you can if some stat is higher than theirs. Possibly Leg Strength, but I might be wrong. You can displace 'minions' (and possibly allies) that are generally weaker.

Ischaldirh

isn't there a force-move command?

Eagle, I said NPCs, not pets.

Izzy, no, there is not.

In the script, there is a "displacement priority" entry, with the player, IIRC being set at 140.

And if you ever find yourself trapped by an ally who refuses to be displaced, simply command them to stop following you (follow me -> off in the command menu).

4zb4, the NPC blocking his path isn't a minion/ally/friend/tamed critter.

Chaostrom: I'm guessing the devs did not anticipate something like this happening. As it is right now, probably all you can do there is die. :/

At last someone understands. Yeah, I figured there was nothing but that, so I just went WM and took it out on Decos, the smug bastard.
#8 Aug 24, 2009, 2:47 am Hide

capristo

just search or stand still, won't they eventually wander off?
#9 Aug 24, 2009, 6:21 am Hide

4zb4

Capristo is right.
Another way is to pray to a god who can teleport you, or use a wand of teleportation (assuming you can)
#10 Aug 24, 2009, 9:31 am Hide

chaostrom

Wrong. Decos wants out, banana grower wants in, but for some reason neither is displacing the other, as you can see. Or not, as you've obviously not bothered to look at the screenshot properly 4zb4. No wands, no gods, nothing, hence my annoyance.

Lordmushroom

Guess you can't use a pick-axe? i think it's pretty stupid that they don't move diagonally...
#12 Aug 24, 2009, 10:15 am Hide

capristo

what if you moved to the staircase? then would the banana grower move diagonally to the space you were occupying? Or, did you try going down the staircase and back up? just some ideas

Trust me guys, if there was something I could've done about it I wouldn't've started this thread.

4zb4

I didn't notice the banana grower-decos displacement going on.
Here's an idea: drop food, get sumo-displaced and see what happens. Provided you have any food...
#15 Aug 25, 2009, 6:05 am Hide

chaostrom

Unfortunately, that game isn't available right now, but I think I'll try that if I ever find myself in such a bind again. Granted, the fact that the sumo has no legs would probably make that problematic too...
#16 Aug 25, 2009, 9:10 pm Hide

BDR

I once had a very unlucky legless adventurer who rolled around, so I don't think that'd be a problem as long as you were willing to wait.
#17 Aug 26, 2009, 12:18 am Hide

chaostrom

No, I meant getting the sumo to displace.
#18 Aug 26, 2009, 11:47 pm Hide

BDR

Oh I see. Yeah, you would have to try depowering yourself a bit for that to work if it didn't happen in an acceptable timeframe. :/

Sorry to rez an old topic, but now I realised there's a pretty obvious solution to that problem of getting out: Simply vomit on the wall until it dissolves. New Attnam walls are really weak, and destroying them doesn't piss anyone off.

capristo

haha, yeah, obviously

Comrade

You could hold down the "-" button and hope they leave...

Good sir, you are wrong on all counts. First of all, vomit doesn't have any clear effect on the primitive balsa walls (certainly not the way it has an effect on metal walls, which makes me think there is none at all). Secondly, without boots of kicking I was unable to damage the primitive balsa even with a LStr of 74, and you made no mention of a pick-axe (which can easily destroy a balsa wall anyway). Finally, you probably only tested this theory on an empty house; trying it on Huang Ming Pong's house reveals it as a clear act of vandalism which causes everyone to go hostile. This would be less problematic ordinarily except in the case above, he was stuck next to Decos and Huang, which means unless he was a badass he'd probably have been cut to ribbons before he mined a hole in the wall (assuming he had a pick-axe or boots of kicking in the first place).

Also! For Comrade's benefit (since until I am told otherwise I will assume he doesn't ever bother looking at anything besides the newest post [stupid, but whatever]), I will inform him that this was tried and did not work. None of the NPCs were able to move as the situation was.

Comrade

Oh im sorry, i didnt know.

BDR:

Maybe it's the fact that I'm using CVS-based IVANX, but it works perfectly fine, and I'm pretty sure I tried dissolving NA walls with vomit in .50 before. Did you actually test it?
#25 Sep 12, 2009, 11:24 am Hide

BDR

Yes, I did in fact test before trying. I use .50 for all my tests.

And, relooking at the original screenshot that started this topic, it looks like I was right to do so, since there is no Willpower stat.
